Its the final game in this part of the Peninsula campaign. With the arrival of the Union before Yorktown they have found the Confederates are holding a strong position.
The Parson has a seven group Union force of the 11th Massachusetts, facing a Confederate force of the 7th Virginia. in the absence of Colonel Whitemoore the Commanding Officer is Major Loophole, a former attorney at law. He is assisted by Lieutenant Benjamin Franklin Flywheel. Wormley's Creek is a difficult obstacle, so the bridge is the only way over.
Captain Floyd Farthingdale has his work cut out for him this time.
The bridge over Wormley's Creek |
The Parson leads his flock over the bridge. Testify Brothers! |
The Parson gets his boys moving and attempts to outflank the position by moving along the creek. That is seven groups on table for the Union |
The Union drive out the Confederate skirmishers. Nice Perry metal figures! |
The Parson shifts his men to the right, using the difficult ground. He has effectively split his command in two. Perhaps "effectively" is the wrong word... |
A piecemeal attack on the far left of the 7th Virginia. |
But on the hill above the now isolated Union left Confederate Lieutenant Benjamin Franklin Flywheel leads his men in a Rebel yell and they descend on the 11th Massachusetts. |
The two Union groups are routed and pretty much destroyed. As a side note I really need to sort out a better river template. |
The situation is no better on the other flank as the attacking group is repulsed. The Parson is forced to withdraw as the 7th Virginia win the day... yet again... |
Ben Flywheel |
The Parson has work to do to rebuild the morale of the 11th Massachusetts, however they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future as the quality of the Confederates declines.
With the Union having been held at Yorktown the preparations for the Siege can begin. Historically of course the Confederacy waited until the Union forces were built up outside Yorktown, and then retreated back towards Richmond. I`m looking forward to the Parson leading his flock in the Seven days battles that followed.
