The Peninsular War: 1st Bn, 27th du Ligne

The 1st Battalion of the 27th du Ligne are probably my favourite Napoleonic force despite their terrible performance during my Vimiero campaign, where they were thrashed by the Rifles and the 4th Foot at every turn.  This is surprising since at 60 points they field a lot of groups... this is a big force, and they are regulars.  Perhaps it was my generalship to blame!

I added an additional Grenadier group to the Regular French Core Force, as part of the ethos of having my Companies structured as battalions.  They mirror the six companies of a French battalion.  With the addition of a drummer from the support list they come in at exactly 60 points, which I have used as the standard.

With two line formations of two and three groups respectively, plus a pair of Voltiguer groups as the skirmishers, the French offer a lot of flexibility and sheer brute force.  The four Officers are sufficient to control this, but it's a big force so the French may be brittle.

Officers of the 27th Du Ligne
Major Figuin:  An Officer of heroic girth, always in search of a good dinner, or his personal safety.

Captain Claude Douche: The waxed moustache of a Hero, the disposition of a poltroon, the morals of a tom cat.

Sous Lieuteant Casse-Toi Bâtard, stammering and psychotic killer of chickens.  Customised dueling pistols.

Sergeant Gui D`Rope 27th Flank, Voltiguers.  A man with long Moustaches and clean underwear.  A fervent Boneapartist, with a squint.

Lieutenant Alphonse Capone, Quartermaster, with six men and a mule train. He is a despicable cad, even the mules are not safe.  He cannot command anything but his own foraging party, being an Italian, and an outsider to the 27th who detest him.
