Rendezvous with Destiny, The Cabbage Patch

Scenario Three

The Cabbage Patch

Background
A second counterattack is pushed forward by the Germans, this time attacking the Allied left flank near a large cabbage patch. The Americans watch the hedges closely for oncoming enemy troops.

Patrol Phase Deployment

This is Scenario Three, Attack and Defend,  in the main rule book and all deployment is as stated there. The  US and German initial Patrol Marker deployment options are shown on the image above. The German player is the “attacker” as described in the scenario for set-up purposes  regardless of  player  initiative.  The cabbage patch counts as light cover if stationary.

The US player has eight support points available.
The German player has nine support points available.

From the diary of Lt Harry "Bing" Crosby.
Over on our left was a cabbage patch,  right in among the hedgerows.  Lt "Chico" Marx, 2 Platoon Commander didn't make the landing so Sergeant Fields, nicknamed "Latrine" in the outfit for his personal habits, had command over there. Old "W.C" had a 50mm gun from support with him, and from the sound of tracks we could hear there was a Kraut tank somewhere near."

The Captain has assigned an additional Sergeant to help W.C out.  Sgt Jack Benny is a fierce wisecracking powerhouse, and commands a 50 mm anti tank gun section.  He has brought a .30 Cal team along too.

The Germans have a pair of Marder II SP's, as well as a mortar barrage.  The cabbage patch will turn nasty pretty quickly.

The Cabbage patch after the patrol phase
The Yanks win initiative.

The 57mm A/T gun gets into a commanding position

Second squad charges down the hedgerow

Good American dice

The Mighty .50 Cal supports the Anti tank gun

W.C gets his boys over the hedge and runs them towards a German jump off point.

The Germans deploy

The Anti tank gun brews the Marder

Not a great success rate for this campaign with these Marders

W.C and his boys put fire down and the German Jump off point becomes a turkey shoot.  The German NCO is killed.

At that point the Germans position was untenable.  The German Hauptmann decides to block the Yankees at the edge of town and halt the counter attacks.

Next up: Scenario 4 On the Outskirts of Town.   Background.
As the worst of the counterattacks end, the US forces continue the push down the road towards Carentan. The Germans establish a hasty defence on the outskirts of town to stem the tide.
