Rendezvous with Destiny, Fighting in the Hedges

 Scenario Two

Fighting in the Hedges

Background
With the Ingouf farm secured behind them, the 101st push out and establish a perimeter near an orchard nestled among the hedgerows.  The  Germans are quick to respond and  begin to  launch a series of intense counterattacks.

From the diary of Lt. Harry "Bing" Crosby, 101st Airborne:
"We've been thrown out onto the right flank to hold the perimeter before the advance into Carentan.  The Krauts are out ahead of us and to the flank.  These Fallschirmjäger put down a lot of firepower...  Supporting us here we have Sergeant Donnie "Oddball" Sutherland and his M4 Sherman."

A quick refresh for the 10mm WW2 guys before I get started.

The right flank table

A powerful german start.  They bring on a Marder, with a section in support

A section under the Feldwebel into the hedgerows

Bing brings on Sgt "Oddball" Sutherland, and Sgt Hope gets his squad into the hedgerows

A Duel. The Sherman misses the Marder, but then earns its "Ronson" name

The brewed Sherman, right beside Bob Hope and his boys.

Crosby brings on his second squad as well as a supporting .50 Cal.

Bing leads a bazooka team off the jump off point.  It strikes the marder and brews it up.  Good work!

The Germans roll a poor set of dice.

The .50 Cal batters the now exposed German section.

Heinz wont be coming back from that.

The Germans send in the King Tiger in response.   Take cover!

The bazooka team gets killed, but Bing survives and ducks across the hedge into cover.

Bobby Hope has his .30 cal engage the Germans along the hedge.  He leads his riflemen forward through the orchard.

Hope uses the M1 firing advance and the Germans are wiped out in a hand to hand.  Note that Little Willi the medic survives, as does the Feldwebel.  Both are well to the rear.

The final insult, Bobby Hope survives the hand to hand.

With the Right flank now secure the 101st can secure the left flank and the cabbage patch.
