70 Squadron Briefing from Colonel Raymond:
Please settle down Gentlemen, and take some coca snuff if you have it, excellent for the nerves. Today's patrol is over last year's battlefield at the Somme. Dark days. Back then we faced the Fokker Scourge. How a new Fokker, a triplane, has emerged. Jasta 3 at Vraignies is flying these. Go over there and show them that the Camel is the better man... or something like that...
The Commander of Jasta 3 is that monstrous rascal Klaus Buttnauzegger. He flies a red triplane, in honour of his hero the Baron. If you see him take care.
Good Hunting Gentlemen.

Jasta 3
Flying DR1 Fokker Triplanes the Ace Major Klaus Buttnauzegger, his sidekick Junior Ace Leutnant Jurgen Fucknutz. Jasta 3 are yet another tough proposition for the Sopwith Camels of 70 Squadron. I have 12 triplanes but I`m only using up to a maximum of eight here. I won't know until the game is under way just how many dirty Fokkers are up there.
If too many Jasta 3 Fokkers are generated I have the option of bringing in Knobson of 99 Squadron and his newly arrived S.E.5s. These are a raw Squadron keen to prove themselves.
Two balloons are up over the lines, at height 4.
B1 is German
B2 is Allied
- Balloons will haul down if an enemy aircraft appears within 12 hexes.
Balloons are a secondary target in this scenario. The Fokkers will be quite enough thank you.
Did the Duke of Wellington really say that trying to write the history of a battle was like trying to write the history of a Ball? I sort of know what he means with these Algy games. They are a swirl of action, almost impossible to track.
Excellent fun though.

The Camels come on in formation looking for the Fokkers |
They find them near the lines, and that is a lot of Fokkers |
Boris Knobson and his SE5s arrive to help, but at an inappropriate low height. Oh dear Knobson! |
The SE5s are new, as are Knobson's Squadron of Sprogs |
The Jasta splits |
True to form Squiffy goes for it and gets a Fokker head on. He really has earned his Ace! |
Buttzaunegger chases young Mayhew, who escapes by going into a spin, although he was trying to Immelman!. |
And Jurgen Fucknutz in the Black Fokker kills "Drippy" |
Shitty Stanley comes a cropper and is forced down, as the Yankee German makes an appearance. Using their top boys today these Krauts |
Bertie brings down a Fokker. Must have his monocle screwed in tight today! |
Cautious Cowell is in trouble too. These Fokkers are all over me today! |
But we can all relax, here comes Boris and his boys, finally made up the height. Hang on though, what's that Yankee German up to? |
"Britain's on Top" Mosley goes down in a hail of Yankee German Spandau bullets. |
Jurgen Fucknutz catches poor old Backstabber Grove. The SE5 massacre continues, excellent aeroplane, sprog pilots Grove manages to keep the damaged SE5 in the air |
Joan Redwood loses control of his SE5 trying to escape, and spins it into the ground. |
The Yankee German sweeps in on Backstabber Grove and shows him some real backstabbing as he shoots down the crippled SE5 |
The victorious Jasta 3 return to the aerodrome for sausages and champagne. |
Three camels and two SE5 are all that remain on the allied side |
Bertie Farthingdale 1 x Fokker
Squiffy Simpson 1 x Fokker. (Promoted Lieutenant)

The Yankee German is promoted to Top Ace. Three sprogs in one day! Jasta 3 will call 20th October "Der Tag" from now on. Seven kills with only two losses.
After a defeat like this one Colonel Raymond better pull something impressive out!
