Policing Jingbai

Generating the game



Random plot factors:
Project Eve, a new Species
"Lightning" an illegal super drug

The Jingbai City Police are called to a downtown shopping area, where a horrific murder has been committed.  The killer is still there, and all that is known about her is that her name is Eve.  Is this a replicant or something worse?  

Sergeant Arakai and his sidekick Detective Ito, of the Special Task Unit have arrived to lead a Swat team in an attempt to capture the killer.  Once again Detective Ito sees this as a good chance to pick up some Pica-Pica Mega soda, the soda that keeps you going...  the Department, and especially Ito, are all crazy for the stuff.

Later an intelligence source, codename "Hagībea." (Ok so its Huggy bear in Japanese!) reveals that the so called Jingbai Ghoul, an underworld figure in Japan, is somehow involved, as is the Huo Corporation with something called project Uzumaki.  Huo are reportedly responsible for much of the production of "lightning," a drug that literally makes someone faster than a normal human.  

"Lightning" is delivered in a cannister dose and deliberately resembles Pica-Pica Mega Soda.

The Game

1. Downtown shopping
A murder in the Mall is more than it seems - Revenge
Complication
The battle takes place at night. All ranged combat is at -1. Demons and hopping vampires ignore this modifier. If the battle takes place indoors, a Protagonist with a ranged weapon (including an improvised one) may shoot out the lights by performing a Hail of Fire manoeuvre. 

Eve stands over the body of a Jingbai Politician.  She has flipped his car and set him on fire.  It's all shouting "Replicant" to the street cops.

The cops close in.

A hit from a pistol round has no effect.  The street cops back off but only after she kills one.

The Special Ops Department arrive.

Araki hits her twice.

No effect.  Ito fires his pump action shotgun twice and injures her.

He hits her with another two, emptying the shotgun.

The replicant, Eve, damaged, runs away at impossible speed.

The plot point is a clue, keys for an apartment in the Plaza.  She has also dropped a bottle of Pica-Pica soda.  Except when Ito claims and drinks it (that's evidence you idiot) he has a funny turn.  A really fast funny turn.

  The Replicant was on "Lightning ."  The Peril point reveals the Huo Corporation' s involvement. 

Replicants on super drugs?  It's all getting very dangerous.

The rebellion of the Duke of Bigmouth

Die Altburg Sonne

Consternation in Vienna this week as the Emperor Charles dies after consuming a gourmet dish of poisonous mushrooms.  Frenetic diplomatic work has begun to ensure that his daughter, Princess Maria Theresé can ascend to the throne.  Archbishop Heinz has already proposed the "Pragmatic Sanction" to allow her ladyship to replace her beloved father.

In the Grand Duchy of the Blaü the Gröan has already been mustering forces for war in support of his Sponsor the Prussian King, as well as raising extra revenues.

In other news the Exiled English Duke Bigmouth has landed in the West Country and will seek battle at some remote bog named Sedgemoor...  He has, as his aides, the Marquis de Sadd and Fat Colonel Pumphosen, who is leading a wild geese Regiment from the Grand Duchy of the Bläu.

The Game

The field of Sedgemore.  Somewhere in ye olde West Country.

The Duke deploys

Bigmouth hides behind his Yokel pikemen.  Have they had their wheat based biscuit breakfast I wonder?  They'll need it.

The Duke of Bigmouths lads get the worst of it.

The cavalry hit the Blue Musketeers and are bounced.

The Rebels are recoiling across the field, and lose two guns to the Royal Dragoons.

The remnants of the Royalist cavalry withdraw

The end, as the Duke flees.  Judge Geoffrey will have his hands full.

Leaving Pumphosen and his blue wildgeese regiment to escape.  Somehow I suspect he will make it!

Great game.  I revised and touched up these really old Pendraken Marlburians for these games.  Worked well.

The Marquis and the Duke: round 2

July 1701.  Nicolas Catinat Marquis de Sadd, former Marshal of France now in the service of the Grand Elector, has withdrawn before the advance of the forces of the Duke of Cummerbund now serving the Royal House of Anhalt.  The Marquis has quite the reputation!




The Game


The Duke stands his ground, but sends a flanking force to his left.

The Marquis begins an ill considered advance 


The Hussars app Temptations to disrupt the Marquis advance, and a fight in the village between Dragoons and Musketeers.



The critical cavalry fight.  Those damn Cuirassier eventually win.

And the Dragoons fall back.

Near the end as the Marquis line is flanked, and he suffers casualties in the centre.

Really nice game, I got so involved I forgot to take pictures!  The Marquis has one last chance to defeat his rival in the last of these three games this week.

Battle of Carpi 1701

The Battle of Carpi was a series of manoeuvres in the summer of 1701, and the first battle of the War of the Spanish Succession that took place on 9 July 1701 between France and Austria. It was a minor skirmish that the French commander decided was not worth fighting, but his soldiers were displeased at his decision to retreat, and he was subsequently replaced.

I've taken the forces involved and a broad brush stylistic representation of the terrain, added in some solo mechanisms and some Imaginations Generals names.  As you do...



The Game

Carpi, seems like a quiet spot.

Cumerbund's cavalry crosses the bridge and skirts the redoubt

The Austrian Dragoons take cover in some gardens and their shooting is fairly effective

The Austrian Cuirassier take on double their numbers.  Lobster top helmets rule.

And the Austrian Hussars swarm the guns

The fight is won by the French but the rest of their army has vanished.  overall a win for the Austrians and the Marquis de Sadd will have questions to answer at court.

Bois des Monts: A hard afternoon

Scenario Three: Bomb Alley


After the initial assault had faded, Sgt Jenkins, commanding the weak "platoon" in the salient saw a section of Germans crawling through the bushes only two metres away. They were attempting to infiltrate through the thick undergrowth to the villa on the other side of the bank.   A stiff grenade and SMG fight followed.  

Both sides in this game are limited to two sections and two big men.  Only three CoC dice will be rolled.  Essentially its a small skirmish.

Game three.  The Germans attacking again.

The foxhole are pretty good cover as 9 Para go on overwatch

I use small arms SMG fire as well as the Brens to hammer the assaulting Germans

But that German advance seems inexorable

Those MG34 lads need some training, or maybe it's the foxhole factor

Even the Paras lose boys.  Hard fight.

The Sergeant brings in his second section to bolster the line.

A German squad is virtually wiped out.

Battle rages with losses on both sides, but it's clear the Paras have it.

The Germans withdraw.  A victory for now.

Scenario Four, The Vickers Box


During the afternoon a pair of jeeps arrived from Division with additional supplies for 9 Para.  Two medium mortars and two more Vickers MMG were delivered and assigned to hastily trained riflemen.  Sergeant McGeever's Support platoon now had five MMGs including the two captured MG 34s.  When the next attack came it was another probing attack across the open ground in front of A Company.  McGeever and Corporal McGuinness rushed one of their guns to a forward position opposite the drive and began engaging the enemy.  The Germans were facing enfilade fire from three machine guns, as well as A Company's Stens and rifles.  This was the last significant attack of the day against 9 PARA’s position around the villa.

The advance across the fields is stalled.

The Sergeant leads his section to capture a German JOP.  It's not going well

The end game.  The Paras drive forward in the counter attack and threaten the Germans remaining JOP.  The jig is up for Fritz.


My second round of games looking at 9 Para and the Bois du Monts will focus on June 9th, as the situation becomes more desperate.
