The first of ten tables. The Duke wants to get to the siege lines further up the valley where the main armies are contending. To do this he has to travel the entire length of the valley (or ten tables). The Duke has only a Company of troops, pike and shot, and a single gun.
Enemy forces are randomly generated.
I
was interested to see how Engarde dealt with a large scale skirmish like this,
and I freely borrowed from Sharpe Practice as well as File Leader for the game.
I was keen to get this game on table, and some of the basing needs finishing
off.
Initially
no enemy were seen and the forces of the Duke advanced onto the first table,
marching down the road. Soon however enemy cavalry were seen hovering
around the village at the north end of the road.
Three "Big Men," the Captain and his two Sergeants. |
The advance. |
Enemy cavalry give the pike block a pistol volley. |
Over-view of the table. |
The
game finished with one of the Duke's Sergeants leading forward a file of
Arqubusiers to line the hedge and give a volley at the Cavalry, to drive them
off.
Overall
more of a File Leader or SP game than Engarde. It will be interesting how
I fare on the remaining tables, all of which will be randomly generated, with
random encounters.
