Infamous deeds in the forests of Germania

Dear and Revered Uncle Quintus,

We have been sent out to quell the local tribe, the Bructeri, over the Rhennus, in support of a Centurion of the "Larks" V Aludae from Ubiorum.  General Titus Piteous Anus has been clear that we must burn down the local German village.

Rumours from the Vicus outside the fort however are that the tribes across the great rivers intend to ambush us at the first opportunity.  My First Spear, "One Eyed" Julius, a solid dependable fellow was sent out with the first Century.  He is only too happy about the prospect of killing Germans.

I, sensibly, remained here in the Auxilia fort at the Red Hill.  No need to risk the Prefect in a nasty little mission like this.

Prefect 1st Tungrians

Forces
Centurion Rufus Phallus of "V" the Larks
Optio Felix Cattus of "V" the Larks
Four Groups of Legionaries
Centurion One Eyed Julius Tungrian Auxilia
Optio Cassius Occisor (the Killer)
Six groups of Auxiliary Infantry
One Group of Aux Slingers (Super Numerum)

The forest glade.
Rufus Phallus is first on with his century of the larks
He is careful with his angles.  Watch those ambush points!

On comes Julius with the Tungrians.  The main body is open order but the flank groups go into skirmish order
Clearly the Tingrians are disturbing the Peace.  The Germans appear in furious order, building fervour.
German cavalry appears to support the flanks.

The Auxilia slingers hammer some rocks at those cavalry, killing three.
More Germans, (and forgive the undercoated ones) come off the ambush point into the advancing Larks

Battle rages
The Optio gets the shock off

Rufus Phallus fights well and the Germans bounce.  Marbod the Bod Bruteri Chief has egg on his face.

The Auxillia get stiuck in.  Seven kills knocks out the German Leader 3.

The Legion fills ranks and batters into the Bructeri

The Larks win their fight on the left.

The Tungrians are faced with stiffer resistance

Young Cassius Ossisor leaves the main body of the Tungrians and changes the formation of the skirmishers on the right.  He leads then into the flank of the Germans breaking their formation.  Not too sure if he is allowed to desert his post like that but he did it.

Young Optio Cassius just had his prospects of making Centurion improve as he impresses the Tungrians Primus.  The Germans fight back really well, but the Romans convert two more kills breaking the enemy.

Good game, but still in a learning curve.
